Tell Me Something, My Friend....

So, the past couple of days I've had people telling me that they are in fact making a sequel to Batman Begins.
For those of you who have seen the movie, you'll know that the next movie is going to have the Joker as the villain.
For those of you who haven't, you still must know that the Joker was the villain from the 1989 Tim Burton/Michael Keaton Batman flick, and Jack Nicholson played the Joker.
For those of you who are very big fans of said movie, it must disappoint you to hear that they will be reprising the role of the Joker in this new set of Batman movies that Christopher Nolan (Director of Memento) is in charge of and I highly doubt that it will be Nicholson playing said role. If it were, that would be more retarded (pardon my political incorrectness) then finding a new person to do it.
Besides, apparently the storyline of The Joker killing Bruce Waynes parents was completly made up by Burton for his film, so to know the actual story will give the newer one a bit more credit.

Anyways, I want to start off by saying that Batman Begins is by far my favourite Batman movie thus far.
Then Batman Returns, then Batman, then none of the rest cause they were all shitty movies even though they had excellent actors in them. In fact, I'm pretty sure that Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face is the only time I HAVEN'T seen him play the role of a cop type character, and he did that pretty good.
Jim Carreys Riddler was awesome, Uma Thurmans Poison Ivy was awesome, Arnold Schwarzeneggers Mr. Freeze was awesome, just becasue its Arnold and he kills me in everything, especially his holiday box office smash hit JINGLE ALL THEE VAY.
Umm, actually, I dont care for Kilmer (as anything else by Iceman), Clooney (as Batman), O'Donnell (not Rosie), or Silverstone (ever.. well, Clueless was alright), so basically it was all the villains I dug... and since you're supposed to be rooting for Batman and Robin, it doesnt really work out when you can't stand that Keaton didnt come back.

However.

You can not possibly go wrong with Christian Bale (Batman), Michael Caine (Alfred), Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox), Gary Oldman (Gordon), Cillian Murphy (Scarecrow), and surprisingly enough, Katie Holmes was actually a good actress for once. With THAT said, and with most of those characters most likely returning in the next one, I can't wait to see who they pick as The Joker and to see if whoever they DO pick can do a better job then Nicholson did, because if you all remember, he was brilliant and brilliance is hard to top.

To get to my last point, I was on a thread about who should play the Joker today and a lot of people had a lot of different ideas, so I'm going to name them all for you guys and have you pick who you think would be best out of said choices, cool?

1. Hugh Jackman: For anyone who doesn't know who this is, he's best known for Wolverine in Bryan Singer's X-Men flicks (of which the third comes out this May and if you don't see it, you're an idiot). You can also see him in Kate and Leopold, Swordfish, and Darren Aronofsky's (director of Requiem for a Dream) up coming film The Fountain.

2. John Lithgow: Third Rock From the Sun, the father in Orange County. I have no idea why people thought this other than the fact that he's tall and lanky like the joker is, but they did.

3. Tim Curry: Rocky Horror Picture Show, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Congo. I can see why people would select Tim. He's got that look and smile to his face that could pull evil off very well.

4. Dennis Quaid: In Good Company, Great Balls of Fire: The Jerry Lee Lewis Story, The Day After Tomorrow. This actually wasn't a speculated one on the thread and was a choice I had in my mind. Its mainly because he has the Joker's smile on his face all the time, but I also think that he's a great actor that doesn't end up with very diverse roles and it would be a good challenge for him.

5. Steve Buscemi: Armageddon, Ghost World, Conair. If he ended up being the Joker, I don't think I would be disappointed. Mainly because he's amazing in everything he does, but never gets a chance to play leading roles in anything. Ghost World was probably the closest he's come from branching away from his character actor roles, but he was still just a supporting actor to Thora Birch's Enid.

6. Sam Rockwell: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Matchstick Men, Galaxy Quest. He was off the wall good as Zaphod in Hitchiker's and I have no doubt that he could make the Joker a good one to watch.

7. Hugo Weaving: The Matrix Trilogy, The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, the upcoming V for Vendetta. Looking through pictures of the Joker straight out of comics and thinkign about Hugo while doing so gave me a good feeling that he could do it well as far as look goes, but I just wonder if he'd have the talent to play it.

8. Paul Bettany: A Beautiful Mind, A Knight's Tale, the upcoming Da Vinci Code. I'm not too familiar with Pauls work. I've seen both A Beautiful Mind and Knight's Tale, but it was so long ago I dont really remember how he is. A lot of people were leaning towards him in the thread though, so we'll see.

9. Crispin Glover: Willard (that rat flick), Back to the Future (Marty's dad in the past). I don't have much to say about Crispin. I haven't seen Willard and he was pretty timid in Back to the Future.. so... *shrugs*

10. Adrien Brody: King Kong, The Pianist, The Village. For the tall and Lanky I can see it, but I can't see him as The Joker.

11. Mark Hamill: The Star Wars trilogy, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, the voice of The Joker in cartoon Batman series. Becasue he plays the voice so well in the series, I can definitly see him being able to tackle the role. I think it would be awesome for him to make some sort of comeback, as well.

12. Jude Law: Alfie, I <3 Huckabees, Talented Mr. Ripley. I think it would be interesting to see him try to pull off The Joker. I wouldn't mind seeing a more insane side of him.

13. Jim Carrey: The Mask, Ace Ventura, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I have no doubt in my mind that Jim could do the Joker far more then justice. However, he's already played The Riddler in a goofy, shitty Batman movie and to have him as the Joker in the more serious way that Nolan is trying to make these ones go, I don't think people would care for Carrey.

14. Johnny Depp: Pirates of the Carribbean, Edward Scissorhands, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Amazing actor. One of my favourite. But the Joker? Are you kidding? No? Well, umm, I'm going with no. But you decide.

15. Jason Lee: Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma. When I saw this mentioned I wondered why and then someone mentioned the little part in Dogma where he makes the 'holy bartender' joke and has that maniacal laugh and cuts himself off with a 'No?' it kinda made me think along their lines.

16. Andy Serkis: Voice of Gollum, 13 Going On 30, King Kong. This was Duffys thought. Duffy says The Joker isn't humanesque at all. Duffy's silly.

17. Jack Black: Orange County, King Kong, School of Rock. A big, fat, no. I love Jack, but this makes no sense.

But yeah, that's all I got from the thread and my head so I'll leave it upon you guys to pick and choose and maybe even suggest your own ideas, cause, you know, I have such an upperhand in the deciding process of hollywood cinema and choice of actors for productions and Christopher Nolan is definitly going to see this.

I'm Batman.

If I weren't terrified of Tim Curry, he'd be my first vote. Second is most certainly Paul Bettany. That guy does creepy so very, very well. A good movie to see with him is Gangster Number 1. SO. GOOD. Even without David Thewlis and his crazy Liverpudlian growling that would have been a good movie.

So my vote? Paul Bettany. And last I heard he was actually being seriously considered, so who knows.

Well, here's hoping you're right if he is selected.
I'll be sure to check out that movie too, for sure.
I only really know Thewlis from Harry Potter, and his small Knox Harrington role in The big Lebowski, but I dug him in those two so I'm sure I'll love him in this.
And I'll get to see if Bettany is all hes cracked up to be.

Welll....

Personally, I think that Guy Pearce would be a great joker, but maybe not, he can play a really creepy guy, like in the Count of Monty Cristo. But I think he has good cheek and jaw bones for it.

Re: Welll....

I was actually thinking about him earlier when I found a picture of him and Hugo Weaving together...
He's got the tall and lanky and skinny face, for sure...
And he was pretty good at playing a jackass in the Count...
But could he play crazy?
Thats the question.

I don't know who should play the Joker, but I absolutely love Paul Bettany and I think he'd be great in any role he played.
